Board Members
John Williams /
Range Director
John, or as most archers know him (Wayne’s son-in law) didn’t start shooting a bow until he was 37. Introduced to archery by his father-in-law and local archery legend, Wayne Depperschmidt. Like most BTB members he was instantly drawn to the club by Dennis and his passion for archery and unrivaled compassion for people. John has been a part of the club for over 25 years serving as Treasurer, President, Vice President, line cook, shoot day & range day general laborer. John is a Colorado Native and enjoys spending time with family/friends, camping with his wife (Robin) & dog (Teeter), and hunting and fishing any chance he gets.
Matt Short / President
Matt was introduced to archery at a young age but didn’t start taking it seriously or pursuing hunting until 2016, the same year he discovered Big Thompson Bowhunters. He was able to harvest his first big game animal, this velvet mule deer with his longbow in 2019, in large part, due to practicing at the Dennis Hansen Archery Range. This club provided him with a safe, family-friendly space where he could grow as a bowhunter, as well as introduce his son to the sport. As President, he has applied his expertise in marketing and visual content creation to help clarify the club’s mission and strengthen its memberships, all in hopes that BTB will still be around when his kid is an adult.
Jeff Carley /
Vice President
Jeff is dad to two awesome girls and enjoys spending time in the outdoors or playing music with them. He has been a board member of BTB for over 4 years and loves the family feel of this club. His recent bowhunting highlights include taking a Spanish goat in Hawaii after multiple long stalks over alien lava fields. He was also honored to receive an award from Colorado Bowhunters Association for his 2025 public land DIY spot and stalk pronghorn, which earned 3rd place. He crawled (and sometimes ran) after the buck for more than 3 hours before sneaking in to 20 yards for the shot.
Mike Lamfers /
Secretary
Mike is a family man who enjoys bowhunting and target shooting. He takes his kids and friends hunting and target shooting when possible and looks forward to the day he can take the 2 little granddaughters out shooting. Mike has been around the BTB club since the early 80’s. As a BTB member he has always been grateful for what the club has done and continues to give to the community. He has full respect for all of those who donate time and or funds for the club to make this available for everyone to enjoy. Mike feels he wants to give back to the club and has offered to help with being an officer for the club to keep the range going along with a very solid crew of volunteers.
Rick Evans / Treasurer
Where would we be without an honest, trustworthy and competent accountant? We are all thankful for what Rick brings to the table! After 40 years in Finance and Accounting, Rick retired and moved to Colorado. After discovering the fantastic Dennis Hansen Archery Range and the Big Thompson Bowhunters, he immediately joined to lend his support. Rick has been enjoying archery since he was 14 (still has that 1st fiberglass stick bow). He enjoys both rifle and bow hunting and is currently using a compound. His preference though is to go back to a recurve bow, sweet and simple and just needs a push to make the transition! Let’s all keep nudging him.
Jack Bakula /
Memberships
Jack didn’t grow up bowhunting or even hunting at all. But his love of the outdoors grew with him fishing and camping with his dad and grandpa as a young boy. He was always interested in hunting from a young age as he remembers sitting at his grandparents eating Saturday morning pancakes and watching Fox Midwest and Bone Collector in the early 2000s. Jack finally picked up a compound bow in the summer of 2022 and has been immersed in the sport ever since. He took over the Membership Coordinator spot from Craig Keeton in the spring of 2025 after many years of Craig’s tenure. Jack hopes to see everybody out on the range for the clubs 3D shoots for many years to come.
Nicole Grzeskowiak / Social Media Manager
Nicole was introduced to archery and the Big Thompson Bowhunters by her husband in 2015 and has been hooked ever since! She is a Northern Colorado native and takes full advantage of all the hiking, camping, fishing and running trails she can find. She hopes to foster the same love of the outdoors and sense of adventure in her young family, and looks forward to a future hunting trip of her own. Nicole does a wonderful job of helping our members stay informed and welcoming new members on our social media. Jump over to Facebook and pay her a visit.
Dennis Hansen / Range Namesake
Dennis passed away on March 12, 2023 and he is dearly missed by this community. He served as the club’s Range Director for over 40 years. He left big shoes for this board to fill, but we are honored to carry on his vision for this range. Dennis was actively involved in archery and bowhunting for almost 50 years. He, along with two friends, founded the BTB in 1981. Over the past several decades he was involved in multiple bow hunting organizations on the local, state, and national level, and received numerous awards and commendations from those organizations in the Colorado Division of Wildlife. However, Dennis felt his greatest achievement over those years was his constant involvement with young people. Besides teaching his two sons, and grandkids the joy of bow hunting, he taught archery skills to thousands of youth.
